Senior Drainage Design Engineer

Job Description

OTHON, Inc. is currently seeking a Senior Drainage Engineer for immediate employment at the Houston, TX location.  We are looking for a self-motivated, aggressively enterprising individual wanting to expand their career opportunities within a growing consulting engineering firm.  The qualified applicant will be a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Texas with experience in Hydrologic Studies and Hydraulic Design as applied to highways and other related highway structures. The applicant will perform the following tasks:  provide drainage studies and detailed hydraulic design calculations in support of signed and sealed plan sheets; provide preliminary layouts, specifications, bill of quantities and final plan sheets; review the work of other engineers; train and mentor less experienced engineers; supervise and review the work of CAD drafting technicians; work closely with other disciplines within the company.  The Senior Drainage Engineer will report to and be under the supervision of the Regional Transportation Manager.

 

  • Develops drainage plans, specifications, hydraulic design calculations, H &H studies and reports
  • Supervises Engineers, EITs, and CAD technicians
  • Schedules work for team members
  • Mentors younger staff
  • Coordinates and works closely with all project disciplines
  • Manages project design schedules, budgets and scope
  • Responsible for project quality control. Involved with drainage studies, drainage design and construction phases of projects
  • Coordinates with the client and is responsible for meeting client schedules and budgets
  • Coordinates with local office and firm management to set, manage, and achieve specific office and firm goals

 

This position requires self-motivation and the ability to work both independently and as part of a larger team in order to work toward common goals in serving our clients. This position may include providing engineering services for the following areas of design:

  • Detention Ponds
  • Drainage
  • Storm Sewer
  • Water Quality Facilities
  • Drainage Channels
  • Erosion Control
  • Flood Plain Analysis
  • Roadside Ditches
  • Conveyance
  • Bridge Scour

 

Minimum Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university
  • 5-15 years of experience of designing drainage projects in the Civil Engineering field
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Texas, or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Infoworks 2D Modeling, Geopak Drainage, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, WinStorm, StromCAD
  • A strong work ethic and attention to detail
  • Able to lead and manage staff

 

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Proficiency in Open Roads Drainage
  • Small Watershed Method
  • Precertification in TxDOT work categories
  • Design-build experience
