The Home Depot
Client: The Home Depot
Location: Conroe, Texas
The Home Depot retained OTHON to provide evaluation and site development services for new stores in the Houston area. The natural topography of the selected site for this store presented OTHON with an opportunity to design an unusual stormwater detention facility that not only saved money, but also maximized the useable real estate. Following design criteria for the US Army Corps of Engineers small dam structures, OTHON designed an outfall structure that resulted in a deeper-than-normal detention facility, thereby requiring less area. Requirements for the outfall structure also required OTHON to perform an analysis of a worst-case scenario for the Possible Maximum Flood
OTHON's Scope
- Site design for a new 102,000-sf store with 40,000-sf garden center
- Design of 17-acre-foot, on-site stormwater detention facility entailed significant soil erosion protection, an architectural screening wall, and sediment traps to minimize impacts to adjacent properties
